My career with the Montgomery Police Department spanned a 24 year period, ranks ranging from Police Officer Trainee to Captain. My career began July 30, 1985 through September 7, 2009. I graduated from the Montgomery Police Academy in December 1985 where I held the position of Vice President of my Academy Class.

From 1985 until 1989, I was assigned to 2nd shift Patrol Division as a patrol officer. In 1988 while assigned to Patrol, I was promoted to the rank of Corporal.

In 1989, I was transferred to the Training and Recruiting Division. My assignment in the Training Division spanned a period of 16 years. While assigned to the Training Division I served in the following positions:

Police Sergeant 1990 to 1996, Supervisor of Training Bureau.

My responsibilities included the direct supervision of training classes and recruits which attended the Alabama Advanced Criminal Justice Academy. I planned and ensured the implementation of training protocol.

Police Lieutenant 1996 to 2004, Bureau Commander, Training Bureau.

My responsibilities included the oversight of all training for new recruits which attended the Alabama Advanced Criminal Justice Academy.

Police Captain 2004, Assistant Division Commander, Training and Recruiting Division. I served as the First Line Administrator for the Training and Recruiting Division. While assigned to the Training Division, for 16 years of my career, I served as an instructor as well as a supervisor.

In 2004, as Captain, I was transferred to the Administrative Division where I served as Assistant Division Commander. My responsibilities were to serve as the First Line Administrator for the Police Desk, Records, Data Entry, Word Processing, Maintenance and Supply and Evidence. I worked there until my retirement in September 2009.

In 2009 after retiring from the Montgomery Police Department, I took a full-time position with the Montgomery Public School System as an instructor at Sidney Lanier High School. As part of Career Tech, I was hired to implement a new program entitled: Principles of Public Service. The program was designed to prepare students for the current job market in careers involving Public Services: Law Enforcement, Corrections, Fire Fighting and Probations. I resigned from this position in 2010 after the completion of one school term.

In 1990, while working full-time with the Montgomery Police Department, I worked part-time with Troy University, Montgomery Campus assisting in providing campus security. Along with this service, I also provided 12 hours of Continuous Education and Firearms Training/Qualifications annually to campus security officers.

After retirement, I continued to work on a part-time basis as a Troy Campus Police (Montgomery Campus) providing campus security and training.

From 1990 up to the present, I instruct/conduct the following In-Service Training classes to the surrounding law enforcement agencies at no cost:

Laws of Arrest – 8 Hours

Basic Report Writing Elements of Reporting Force – 8 Hours

 

I also instruct the following classes to the:

Montgomery Police Academy Basic Training class

Laws of Arrest – 8 hours

Alabama Advanced Criminal Justice class

Laws of Arrest - 4 hours

 

My career with the U.S. Army included the years of 1979 to 1981 and concluded with an Honorable Discharge. I served in the 32d Army Air Defense Command, United States Army Europe for 2 years and 8 months of a 3 year career. I was trained as a 16C10 Nike Hercules Fire Control Crewman. While serving I was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for my participation in a Tactical Evaluation Exercise.

I am a native of Birmingham, Alabama and a 1977 graduate of L. Frazier Banks High School. I attended R.E.T.S. Electronic Institute, 2812 12th Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama, where I received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. I am the father of a daughter and a son.

I am a lifelong member of the Baptist Church and a current member of St. Matthews Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where I serve on the Deacon Board.
